A Flat Stomach with Weight Training

When people want to get a flat stomach, weight training is a major factor that is often overlooked. They have the misconception that weight training will make them big and bulky, therefore missing out on its benefits. Don't make the same mistake.

Weight training will greatly aid you to lose the fat that you need to in order to boast a slimmer, healthier, more athletic-looking physique. So why do some people avoid weight training like it's the plague? They have this irrational fear that weight training will make them huge and bulky. What they don't understand is that it takes a lot of lifting and exact nutrition to build the muscles that will make them "bulky". Why else are bodybuilders all using supplements? It's because getting big is hard!

So now that we've allayed your fears of getting "big and bulky," let's talk about how weight training will help you get a flat stomach. Let's start with the obvious. Weight training is a form of exercise. When you weight train, you will burn calories. If you're looking to lose weight or your belly, the more calories you burn, the better.

While you won't get really big with a moderate weight training routine, you WILL be in better shape. You WILL build some muscle. Not enough to make you look like the hulk, but enough to bump up your basal metabolic resting rate. (for more information, read my article about the benefits of weight training)

The basal metabolic resting rate is the amount of calories your body burns when you aren't doing anything. It is the amount of calories your body uses to sit around the house and do nothing. The more muscle you have, the higher your body's basal metabolic rate will be. That means you will be burning more calories in whatever activity you do, or whatever activity you DON'T do. More calories consumed will translate to faster fat loss and that means you get your flat stomach faster.

With weight training, you burn calories WHILE you exercise, and after. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Also, ever notice how even skinny people don't have flat stomachs? Sure, they're thin, but most of them won't have the six pack abs you're probably looking for. That's because they probably neglected to weight train their abdominal area. Stronger ab muscles will give your stomach a better, firmer, leaner look. You can't get sculpted abs if there is nothing to sculpt.

Don't be fooled by all the fast weight loss tips out there. You will have to work to lose your stomach flab. Weight training is a great way to do it.
